One of the unique and wonderful advantages to belonging to a congregation such as ours is the tremendous sense of community involvement and the willingness of members to help out those in need, whether the person is a congregant or a member of the community at large.  For those who would like to help out but find themselves overly burdened by the demands of work and family, there is a way to make a difference without an enormous expenditure of time.   There is a need to fill minyan services so that members may say kaddish for their loved ones.  Although it is difficult for anyone who is working or who has school-age children to make it to the 7:00 am minyan services on Mondays and Thursdays, some may be able to make it to the 9:00 am services on Sundays. For those of you who have children attending Religious School, you may drop off your children on Sunday and then join the minyan service.

Additional minyans are also held on Rosh Chodesh and during Hol Hamoed and Chanukkah.  Minyans that fall on secular holidays and other non-workdays, such as Thanksgiving and New Years Day, usually begin at 9:00.  You can always go the calendar on JCCH Web site (www.jcch.org) for exact times and dates. Several years ago, a movie called “Pay it Forward” told the story of a boy who, triggered by a school assignment, had the idea of “paying favors forward” rather than simply returning them.  He began a chain reaction of people doing kindnesses for each other that expanded beyond his imagination.  Unfortunately, everyone in our congregation will be in need, someday, of a minyan service.  Often we are so grateful to those who are so generous in our time of need; why not pay it forward for those who might be in need now?
